Vogues Fashion Night Out: Beauty Itinerary

Us in the fashion industry have been planning this global fashion retail party thrown basically by Anna Wintour for 6 months now. It was initially proposed about 2 years ago at a Nieman Marcus breakfast in Paris. The point of it is a global initiative to promote retail, restore consumer confidence, and celebrate fashion, U.S. and international editions of Vogue are coordinating evening extravaganzas in their respective world fashion capitals.

I will be spending most of my night at the company I work for and our vendors such as Barneys and Bergdorf's and a few small hot spots such as Phillip Lim, Teen Vogue Party and Opening Ceremony.

There is also great stuff going on in London, Paris, Japan, Berlin and Milan. All of UK ladies check out whats going on in your city, I know Liberty, Harrods and Selfridges are all doing some fun things!

I have compiled a fun BEAUTY itinerary from Vogue for anyone that is going to be in NYC area. Let me know if you plan on going anywhere!

Union Square Area:
"A landmark evening is even better when it starts at an actual landmark, so, downtowners, kick off your night at M.A.C.’s store in the historic Flatiron building. Guests will get a sneak peek at the brand’s new “Style Black” makeup collection—which channels the tough-chic eighties fashion spotted on the recent fall runways with Sprouse-inspired eye kohl, liquid vinyl lip gloss, and glittering Goth noir nail polish—while a deejay spins in the background.

A few blocks south in Union Square, Fresh co-founder Alina Roytberg will be on hand for personal beauty consultations: Sip on Veuve Clicquot while browsing the airy boutique’s selection of sake and rice-infused body treatments and Umbrian Clay face masks—or opt for a quick makeup application (tip: the company’s new pink-tinted Sugar Rosé lip balm is universally flattering). Afterward, a pro photographer will snap a new photo for your Facebook page—then upload it instantly. If you’re seeking one of the luxe beauty brand’s addictive eau de parfums instead, simply head around the corner to Sephora’s Seventeenth Street storefront, where Roytberg partner (and Fresh co-founder) Lev Glazman will demonstrate custom fragrance-blending from an on-site Ingredients Bar.

After a quick stroll through the park and down Third Avenue—you’ll hear the party before you get there—Kiehl’s will be celebrating the fortieth anniversary of its best-selling Lip Balm #1 with live karaoke (take note: a top secret celebrity guest will take turns at the mic). Next up, die-hard makeup enthusiasts can zip down Twelfth Street, where Make Up For Ever top talent Floriane David will perform live body painting for an audience at the company’s sleek neighborhood storefront. To cap off the evening feeling as good as you look, drop into The Body Shop on Broadway, where proceeds from the company’s organically grown cotton Bag For Life tote will be donated to the Somaly Mam Foundation.

Uptown: East Side
It’s going to be a long night, Upper East Siders—which is why we suggest kicking it off calmly with a little shopping fortification: a neck and shoulder massage at the Clarins Skin Spa on Madison and 81st. Once sufficiently relaxed, drift out the door and cruise down the avenue toward Jo Malone, where floral designers from U.K. florist Jane Packer will make custom bouquets—orchids, vanilla pods and fennel frawns to go with Jo’s Vanilla Anise, for example—complimentary with any purchase. Flowers in hand, make your way to Clyde’s chemist (clinical skin care czar Peter Thomas Roth will be there), and Bond No. 9—where a spritz of Madison Soirée eau de parfum clearly makes the most sense (it also comes in a candle).

Barneys’ beauty level will be abuzz with their resident gurus: Olivia Chantecaille and her team will record your Chantecaille makeover with Flip video—and then email it to you so once at home, you won’t miss a step recreating your perfect fall face. Lipstick Queen’s Poppy King—purveyor of the ultimate red lipstick—will perform “lipstick readings,” while prince of perfume Frédéric Malle presides over his shop-within-a-shop (don’t miss poking your head inside his signature Smelling Columns) and signs bottles of his culty Editions de Parfums scents. Spencer Krenke from Saint Parfum will be blending made-to-measure room scents and candles complete with old-fashioned, custom calligraphied labels (your friends will all be jealous—trust me, mine are). Ben Gorham—faultlessly chic creator of the Swedish perfume line Byredo—will unveil a new collaboration with his fellow Swedesters from Acne: No. 23, a limited edition candle, created for the fashion label’s new flagship, located at Lilla Nygatan 23, in a 17th century building in Stockholm’s Old Town. Last but not least, at 9 PM, Barney’s’ in-house cosmetics authority, Jason Ascher, and I will Rehab Your Makeup Bag—what to keep, what to toss, and what you absolutely must have for the season ahead.

If you haven’t seen the secret beauty bonanza downstairs at the Plaza hotel yet, tonight’s the night. Makeup artists from Smashbox and Warren Tricomi salon’s Joel Warren and Edward Tricomi will demonstrate fall’s latest trends. Across the street at Bergdorf Goodman, extreme beauties Caroline Trentini and Daria Werbowy will be on the 3rd floor to help fête Rizzoli’s new coffee table tome Extreme Beauty in Vogue (a book we highly recommend, naturellement). Be sure to get your copy signed by Vogue’s Phyllis Posnick—the editor who collaborated on many of the book’s most memorable Kleins, Newtons, and Penns. Upstairs, the party on 5 is all about Roopal Patel and makeup artist Troy Surratt’s masterful new makeup palette for Le Métier de Beauté—an entire season of trends (Rodarte’s road warrior…Balmain’s party girl…), one slim black case. Jennifer Aniston, Nicole Kidman, and Blake Lively are all fans of makeup artist Angela Levin, and anyone who pops into Chanel’s 57th Street boutique can experience her magic touch (and create their own Chanel bag—from leather to strap to monogram—while they’re at it). Several shops away, YSL turns Parisienne, with a first peek at the new fragrance and campaign starring Kate Moss.

Meredith Melling Burke will bring a posse of our favorite models—Coco Rocha, Behati Prinsloo to name a few—to Bendel’s, where we’ve curated the ultimate fall Vogue Checklist for one night only. This season, red lips rule, and after an “Unforgettable” makeover with Revlon superstar Gucci Westman—the makeup artist behind so many Vogue covers—so will you. Also part of the deal: a photo session styled by Gossip Girl costume designer Eric Daman. There will be a rare selection of vintage fashion, beauty, and accessory books, specially shipped in from LA’s Nick Harvail Antiques, and Alexa Rudolfo—NYC’s go-to-girl for pre-gala makeup and hair house-calls—will turn it out with her new line of culty candles. Whatever you do, do not miss the No Fear Nail Bar, where the masters from Valley—current obsessions here at the magazine; stay tuned for our October issue—will take your hands to another level with freehand Japanese nail art and all manner of quirky-cool embellishment. Just ask Vogue’s manicured-to-the-max fan Sally Singer: These women can do anything.

How’s your hair? Be among the first to see Oscar Blandi’s brand-new (opened-this-week) salon on Madison and 55th for his ever-popular Blow-Outs & Bellinis. Along with styling stars Luca and Nunzio, and over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, Oscar will teach you how to do a flawless salon-quality blowout, at-home. (212-988-9404 for appointments)

If a makeup lesson from Bobbi Brown and her backstage team appeals, make sure to get to Saks early in the evening (212-753-4000 x2194 for appointments). Aerin Lauder will also be in the house, taking a page out of grandma Estée’s book, and manning the counter. Aerin will share her favorites for the season, most notably, her new Private Collection Jasmine White Moss perfume. Don’t leave the counter without having one of Lauder’s signature gold powder compacts and lipstick cases engraved—a rare treat (and a great gift). Next up: The coco connoisseurs from La Maison du Chocolat will create the ultimate chocolate tasting, pairing their treats with Tom Ford’s four new White Musk scents. The first customer to purchase the coffret containing all four perfumes in their 50 ml size will be immediately upgraded to the gargantuan 250ml decanters, housed inside a deluxe Macassar wood box, complete with a note signed by Tom. Mingle with model Daria Werbowy at the Lancôme counter (from 6-7 she’ll be previewing the new Hypnôse Senses perfume, straight from Paris); talk skincare with Révive’s Dr. Gregory Bays Brown and the mad scientists behind La Mer’s mysterious miracle broth. Tim Quinn, Giorgio Armani Cosmetics’s much-loved national makeup artist, has managed to smuggle into the store 100 advance tubes of Rouge d’Armani lipstick—50 in a shade of drop-dead-red (#400) and 50 of what will surely become the season’s cult sensation: an extra-bright, yet elegantly wearable magenta (#600). And amid this swirling storm of glamour: porcelain-skinned model Coco Rocha and I will pop from counter to counter, hand-picking our own fall must-haves—the cosmetics, skincare, perfume and candles that make the cut. (Five lucky shoppers will win the whole stash).

But the night isn’t over yet. Two blocks down 5th, at Sephora, from 8-9 PM, model Bar Refaeli (undercover cosmetics junkie) and I will answer all of your beauty quandaries at the Ask a Model, Ask an Editor Vogue Beauty Bar. Meanwhile, the mezzanine will morph into a “living museum,” as the airbrush masters from Temptu (responsible for everything from Nicole Kidman’s picture of perfection in The Stepford Wives and Robert DeNiro’s chillingly tattooed Max Cady from Cape Fear to the airbrushed kisses on Thakoon’s recent runway) will demonstrate their art, in living color. Get your own airbrushed look (intricate 80s eyes? Super-contoured cheeks?) —followed by a personal photo shoot—or just marvel at the models, who will be airbrushed head-to-toe.

Upper West Side
On September 10th, grab a stack of your favorite magazines (Vogue and Teen Vogue, of course) and head out to one-stop beauty shop Bluemercury’s Tear-and-Wear event. The mission: a customized look chosen—by you—straight from your favorite ad or editorial—the Tear—and deftly re-created by makeup artists from NARS, Bobbi Brown, Laura Mercier, and Trish McEvoy—the Wear. (Tip: Call ahead to book an appointment: 212/799-0500.)

Now, with the perfect red lip, the most intricate airbrushed eye, and seamless foundation in place, cruise down to Space.NK, on Columbus Avenue between Sixty-ninth and Seventieth streets. Here, beauty mastermind Nicky Kinnaird’s team is trained and at the ready for personal skin consultations (maybe it’s time to try a serum), expert eyelash applications (a lesson to remember), and makeup how-to’s—the evening doesn’t end until 11 p.m., and neither should your makeup. If 80s punk-goth is your vibe, don’t miss the StyleBlack party atMAC on Columbus and 66th. DJ’s will spin; models will model, and this night only, you can get the season’s subversive new black lip (in glosses, mattes, and sheers) before it goes on sale at the end of the month.

Next up (and a few steps away) is the Lancôme boutique party with designer Chris Benz. In between sips of Henriot champagne and bites of Magnolia cupcakes, Chris, joined by star makeup artist Daniel Martin and best pal (and Lancôme face) Elettra Wiedemann, will be unveiling a wait-list-worthy limited-edition lipstick hot off his runway. Bonus: Anyone who signs up—the lipstick debuts in January; the wait list begins tonight—has a chance to win two tickets to Benz’s Spring 2010 show (remember: Fashion’s Night Out is also the kick-off party for New York Fashion Week).

Over at the Time Warner Center in Columbus Circle, there’s finally a chance to relax (or reenergize if your FNO agenda is far from over) in the next best thing to an English still garden: Crabtree & Evelyn is treating guests to hand massages using the line’s chic shea butter hand creams (scented with the company’s signature lavender, rose, lily of the valley, wisteria), followed by palm readings. The first 50 guests to arrive will get a free sample of the new Citron, Honey, & Coriander hand-care remedy (not available to the rest of the world until October). Then, check out neighboring FACE Stockholm (just two stores over) for facial and hand massages from an ayurvedic therapist using the line’s marine-enzyme cream."- Vogue

HAVE FUN and support retail and the fashion industry!
