Beauty News Du Jour 5.4.09

YSL beauty has been officially bought out by L'Oreal.

"L'Oréal has bought out the beauty division of Yves Saint
Laurent this week from the Gucci group, for $1.68 billion..

L'Oréal chief executive Jean-Paul Agon commented to WWD, 'This proposed agreement represents a great opportunity for L'Oréal and its luxury products division. Yves Saint Laurent is a mythical French luxury brand. It is admired the world over and is particularly complementary with our current brands. '

Robert Polet, CEO of the Gucci Group added, 'This agreement would be key for Yves Saint Laurent. The strength and expertise of L'Oréal would put the further development of the brand on a faster track.'" WWD

Thoughts? Do you consider this a positive or Negative?

I am leaning towards negative, L'Oreal is a mega-corporation and while they have great brands under their umbrella (Shu, Armani, Lancome etc...) they have shady animal testing behaviors and I try not to use makeup that I know test on animals. I love YSL so much and so many of my favorite products are by YSL that I just hope they dont change (Faux Cils Mascara- my HG and all my Rouge Volupte)

  1. Ditto on the animal testing issue.
Therefore I'm not too happy about this :(.

  2. yeah, i love animals :(
I do not need to wear makeup that is not cruelty free when so many are! Its such a shame because I love YSL. L'Oreal says they are cruelty free but I have heard otherwise. I think i will look into this a bit more!

  3. I was impressed with this blog, although the material is simple but the results are extraordinary
