This post is going to be my Myths and Legends entry for MizzWorthy's contest. My entry was based on a Legend, not so much a myth. My favorite book of all time and a legend in itself is Jacqueline Susann's book, Valley of the Dolls. I drew my inspiration from the book and the main charchtar Anne Wells.
Valley of the Dolls is the title of a best selling novel by Jacqueline Susann, published in 1966. It is widely considered one of the most commercially successful novels of all time. The "dolls" within the title is a slang term for downers, mood altering drugs. The novel begins immediately after the end of World War II and chronicles the story of three young women who embark on careers that bring them to the dizzying heights of fame and eventual self-destruction. Valley of the Dolls was an instant success when it was first published. See below for some background plot information and if you have not read this book, READ IT!!!!
My look is not an extreme look (maybe not extreme enough for an illamasqua contest) but really drawing inspiration from that time period. I have done this made up drugged up sixties glamour look on my 19 year old sister, Rebecca. She is a beauty without make up but with makeup she could be mistaken for a Victoria's Secret Model. No Joke. We played around for about an hour. Getting her not to smile and to stop laughing was no easy task!
This looks like it could be straight out of a W or Vogue Shoot. I adjusted the exposure to really give it a sixties feel! No other altering or photoshopping. She is naturally a stunner. I love these shots! I am going to blow the first one up and frame it.
Introducing one of my sisters....
